Odonate Conservation
Practically everything we do affects natural ecosystems!
We have a tendency to view the man-insect relationship from our point
of view, whether certain insects are to our advantage or disadvantage. We tend to nurture the less threatening species such as
butterflies and try to destroy biting insects and garden pests; not fully
understanding the repercussions this might have throughout our delicate ecosystems.
Like other animals and plants, odonates confront many man-made threats to
their existence. We ourselves are the cause of the loss of biodiversity and
the extinction of many species. We destroy their food sources, water, and
shelter (habitat), we contaminate, we introduce exotic species and we
over-exploit.
Check out our pages to better understand what some
of these specific threats are and how you can take personal action to answer them and help preserve dragonflies and damselflies.
